 Paul Vine

Stage Manager

Paul Vine

This Paul’s first time with the Players and we don’t usually get this far down the list until we find one of those. By all accounts (Paul’s really), he has stage managed many productions over in Essex. Life has brought him to Marlow, for which we are very grateful.

 BrianP22

Assistant Stage Manager

Brian Plestead

Brian, and his wife Iris, have been with the Players since 2002. Brian is an experienced back stager and has even had a dabble at directing. He has  never been onstage except when Graham the lights catches him!

 Rod Paterson

Sound

Rod Paterson

Rod first turned his hand to sound effects in 1999 for “The Weekend” after his first and last appearance onstage in “On the Razzle”. A techie through and through, he only found out last week that the production was in April.

 GrahamE16

Lighting

Graham Everett

Graham, our lighting stalwart and scaffold erector, is back from his wilderness week; he had to delegate his production job to young Chris Porteous for the last production. I like a bit of competition in the company.

 GrahamE01

Set Builder

Graham Evans

Graham is normally our stage manager and set builder, but work commitments have meant he has been unable to give as much time as he would wish to the job. However, he is back for the production, and I for one heave a sigh of relief.

Costumes

Iris Plestead

Sorry Iris, no photo! You have all seen Iris at the front of house on many occasions, but for this production she has had the nightmare of late Victorian costumes, specialist hats and trousers for fat people (that’ll be me then). Many thanks Iris.

The Cast

(In Order of Appearance)

 TonyB80

Baines the butler

Tony Bew

Tony is the current Chairman of the Players and first appeared as Charles Condomine in “Blythe Spirit”. He has been in many productions over the last 10 years and directed the last production “House Guest”. He last played the part of the ill-named Merriman in “The Importance of Being Ernest”, and now that he has found a costume that fits, he’s going to stick to being a butler.

 DominicWalker283

Lord Arthur Savile

Dominic Walker

Dominic’s first appearance with the players was as the eponymous Ernest in “The Importance of Being Ernest”. Once more he has delved into his into his mixed bag of characters and has come up again with the well spoken landed gentry, although this time it is the Wodehousian, Bertram Wilberforce Wooster that emerges, a man with more aunts than IQ.

 PipR01

Sybil Merton

Pip Stacey

Pip has been with the Players for 5 years now and first appeared as Mitzi the mad maid in “A Murder is Announced”. Her last role was as Cecily Cardew in “The Importance of Being Ernest”. Although her roles in the Players productions have become more sane over the years, I feel she is losing her grip on reality as she slipped off to Africa and got engaged to Chris Richards, who is as mad as a box of frogs.

 Andrew Stafford (2) BW

The Dean of Paddington

Andew Stafford

Andrew has been with the Players for more years than he cares to remember. During that time, he has acted and directed in numerous productions and last directed “Hobson’s Choice” and played the role of Tubby Wadlow.

Andrew is a late replacement as the Dean and we very much appreciate him stepping in with two weeks to go.

Thank you Andrew.

 Hilary Cox

Lady Windermere

Hilary Cox

A longstanding member and officer of the Marlow Players, Hilary’s involvement has spanned roles, serious and comic, leading and supporting, as well as backstage. She last played the part of Jane Mercer, the devoted secretary of Hollywood stars, the Drurys’ and their son, Mike in “House Guest”. Here she gets to put on her posh frock, wave her fan and spit acid at Lady Julia

 Wendy Gammond

Lady Beauchamp

Wendy Gammond

With Wendy we’re in the middle of the hard core of Players from the last millennium. Wendy has had many roles both front and backstage, but I can’t remember when she did not play a woman with hidden depths. She last appeared as Sara Ward in “Will you Still Love me in the Morning” as with the strait laced Sara. Lady Clementina exhibits a certain risqué attitude not associated with one’s great aunt.

 Maura 2003

Lady Julia Merton

Maura Ross

Maura is one of the longest serving members of the Marlow Players. Her first appearance was in “Not Now Darling”, in 1975 and she has appeared numerous productions ever since. Her recent plays include; When We Are Married, Haywire, Waiting in the Wings, A murder is Announced, Hay Fever, Cut and Run, Daisy Pulls it Off and House Guest

 Brian Couling

Mr Podgers

Brian Couling

Brian is in his 17th year with the Players and last appeared as Inspector Burford in “House Guest”. Brian plays Mr Podgers and for the second production in a row, he will be receiving the boos and hisses, of the audience as the baddie.

In between his appearances as Podgers, he will be assisting Suze as prompt.

Brian is a former chairman of the Players and now is our treasurer.

 SuzeW

Nellie

Suze Ward

Suze first joined us in 2004 as Alice Hobson in “Hobson’s Choice”. She then became the reptilian Monica Smithers in “Daisy Pulls it Off”, the rumbustious Sarah in “Accrington Pals” and lastly, front of stage, as Madge in “Kindly Leave the Stage”. In “The Importance of Being Ernest” she worked tirelessly backstage to make sure we got it right. Tonight she is doubling up as our prompt, many thanks Suze.

 Chris Richards

Herr Winkelkopf

Chris Richards

Chris first appeared with the Players as Will Mossop in “Hobson’s Choice”. He then went on to lead in “Will you Still Love me in the Morning” and “Kindly Leave the Stage” but last appeared as the psychotic Sergeant Clayton in “House Guest”. Now he’s back in his favourite genre, playing the clinically insane Winkelkopf with more ham than a hog roast. A special thanks to Chris for making and providing some of the props.
