Dear Marlow Players and Friends,

The visit by Les Baladins was a great success and they are looking forward to seeing us in Marly next year! A special thanks to all the hosts, who extended such wonderful hospitality to our French friends; to the Marlow Players’ crew, who set up the technical elements in the Community Centre; and to everyone else who worked behind the scenes to pull it all together. Our French visitors had a wonderful time in Marlow and their premiere of ‘Weekend’ (Noel Coward’s ‘Hay Fever’) was enthusiastically received by the audience.

Music and Poetry

On 24th May we are holding a Music and Poetry evening for Members in The Studio. Andy,Jossy and Max will provide the music and singing. Please bring along a favourite poem to read and be prepared to sing along with some of Andy’s songs.

Murder Mystery

The next ‘production’ of The Marlow Players is to be a Murder Mystery Evening on 24th June 2016 at Liston Hall. The price for non-members is £15 – which includes a fish supper and prizes for the half-time quiz and the first correct ‘Guess the Murderer’ answer drawn out of the hat. The cost for Members is £10. The dress code is 1940s – the decade in which the mystery is set!! There will also be a raffle! Please come along and support this event, which should be great fun!! We shall need to know numbers in advance, in order to pre-book the food, so please let me know as soon as possible if you wish to come along. Bring along your own drinks, please. This is to be a public event – it is a fund-raiser – so if you know of anyone or any groups who may be interested, please let me know. We have already had some interest from a couple of groups in Marlow. The more, the merrier!!

Final casting  is as follows

Sir Brian – Max
Lady Sylvia – Hilary
Lord Guy – Andy
Mimsie – to be announced
Ruth – Jossy
Catchpole – Andrew

This is the list of rehearsals, as there are moves which will require practised choreography. I hope everyone is able to come along to most, if not all, of them.
It’s the first time we’ve done anything like this so I think it is very important that our premiere is perfect!

Rehearsals will be:

Tuesday 31st May
Thursday 2 June
Tuesday 7 June
Tuesday 14 June
Tuesday 21 June

AGM

The most important meeting of the year! Well almost. Thursday 16 June, followed by drinks and nibbles, in the studio.

Hall Barn

Hilary is organising a Players group to the Chiltern Shakespeare production, The Comedy Of Errors. Trip is Friday 17 June.

As in previous years, we plan to go to the Hall Barn estate in Beaconsfield Old Town to watch The Chiltern Shakespeare Company’s play: ‘The Comedy of Errors’. They are an excellent amateur group that forms annually, solely to perform a Shakespeare play. The play is performed outdoors, but the audience is under cover (tarpaulin, but fairly cosy). It is a beautiful spot if you’ve never been and we normally have a group picnic beforehand (bring your own food and drink), but this is not obligatory. Alcoholic drinks and hot drinks are available to buy should you wish. We usually arrive by about 6.30pm (I may well get there at about 6.00pm-ish to get a good spot). The play starts at 8.00pm. I strongly recommend warm clothes and boots (not sandals as your feet will get cold!). A blanket and a cushion are also a good idea. It’s a fun, delightful evening, even in the rain! The actors get wet, but not the audience.

Tickets are £18.00 (no concessions on a Friday evening). Please let me know as soon as possible (by Friday, 27th May) if you wish to come along so I can book the tickets, as time is getting short. You can pay me a little later. Many thanks.

Regards. Hilary

Summer events

We hope to have a film evening in July and also to hold a Director’s evening, where you may try your hand at directing a short excerpt of a play. More details to follow. And a BBQ somewhere !

Hope to see you soon. Gloria
