Leading up to Christmas the Players have had an action-packed couple of months. We presented Murder most Foul, a new murder mystery written by Gloria. This was most enthusiastically received by a packed Liston Hall. We were delighted to welcome some new members into the cast, particularly Gareth as a twin brother and Tessa as his wife, supported by Vi, Andrew, Jen and David. Sound effects were provided by Caroline and the whole team set up Liston Hall in record time and cleared afterwards.
Squeezed into a choc full autumn programme were the auditions for Twelfth Night, and what a cast we have assembled. Everyone is physically suited to their role, and we welcome Jake, Sophie and Mandi to the team. Gloria then provided a super entertainment based on A Christmas Carol in rhyme, for the National Trust Christmas Party; the Upper Thames Sailing Club and Marlow Meadowside Care Home in the run up to Christmas. We met for the Carols on the Causeway and afterwards repaired to Andrew and Sally’s for mulled wine and mince pies and a special performance of A Christmas Carol for Andrew who was temporarily immobilized: definitely the start of a mummers’ play tradition.
Rehearsals for Twelfth Night commenced, appropriately, on January 6th. We do indeed have a wonderful cast. A group of strong men put up the set on January 5th so the cast arrived to find the Studio transformed to Illyria, and we are all set for a great production, supported by a backstage team led by Georgina who has been busy looking after our publicity and promoting The Players in social Media. We have a good team of technical staff for light, sound and back stage but would always welcome more!
David ran the annual Christmas Party at Liston Hall with support from Gloria, Olwen and Brian. This was a wonderful bring and share, and the tables were laden. Twenty of us enjoyed good company and a great quiz, and a very enjoyable evening set us all up perfectly to start our spring rehearsals for Twelfth Night. Tickets are available through Ticket Source at our box office (link needed) We do hope you will be able to join us for what promises to be a great show.
